Our Impact

“Dozens of BOLD Artistic Directors, Associate Directors & Producers, Fellows, and entire teams of women playwrights, directors, composers, and designers have been supported by the BOLD Theater grant.”

— Eve Burton,
Bold Theater Founder

As a direct result of this grant, BOLD theaters have enjoyed tremendous successes and accomplishments, including being recognized through industry awards, commissioning new works, sending BOLD associates to direct on Broadway, and, most powerfully, hiring and mentoring women to advance their careers in the American theater.

  • BOLD Associate Producer, Mekala Sridhar, awarded $10K to artists in DC through Woolly Mammoth’ Company Pool fund.

  • WP Theate received a Lortel Award for Theater Achievement.

  • The Jungle Theater commissioned a BOLD musical by top recording artist Shawn Colvin.

  • Ensemble Theater created BOLD mentoring programs with young women of color from six of Houston’s high schools and colleges.

  • Northern Stage’s hiring of three BOLD staff brought the theater two newly curated BOLD plays.

  • The Alliance theater opened its new Coca-Cola stage with the female-led EVER AFTER, supported by a women-dominated creative team.

  • BOLD Associate, Tinashe Kajese-Bolden expanded the Spelman Leadership Fellows program to include two new theatres, including BOLD theatre OSF.

  • All BOLD theaters have increased hiring of female directors and designers by more than 20%; Northern Stage has increased by 98%.

  • All Associate Directors have or are slated to direct on their theater’s main stage.

  • New female-led musical productions are slated for main stage production in two theaters, and all others have new musicals in workshop and development stages.

  • BOLD Associates Tamilla Woodard and Tinashe Kajese-Bolden have received national recognition, and Jess Chayes has received two national theater awards.
